Pet and animal protection is a vital endeavor in our community. Tulare County can experience severe weather patterns such as drought, heat, freeze, and similar harsh conditions. These occurrences can be dangerous to humans as well as to pets, livestock, and other animals.
Tulare County Animal Services is responsible for the welfare and safety of animals in the unincorporated areas of Tulare County. Our team is focused on:
- Ensuring public safety
- Responsible pet ownership
- Licensing of dogs and cats
- Responding to and investigating reports of animal bites
- The humane care and treatment of animals
- Enforcement of laws, codes, and regulations related to animals

Pet Adoptions

Animal Shelter and Licensing
People love pets. They're cute, cuddly, and fun! But having a pet involves more than just love. There's a commitment involved; pets need food and water, medical care, and, in some cases, lots of attention. Unfortunately, some people bring a pet home and then find that they are in over their heads. The result is a large number of unwanted pets that may be abandoned, sick, or injured. That's where Tulare County Animal Services steps come in. We do what we do because hundreds of animals in Tulare County need us each year!
The Animal Care & Adoptions program provides food and shelter for unwanted, stray, sick, and injured animals in addition to dog licensing services. Animal Control also responds to emergencies, including dog bites, vicious animals, reports of animal neglect, and public complaints.
Animals are sheltered at the County’s Animal Care & Adoptions facility. In addition to 50 indoor/outdoor kennel runs for dogs, the facility includes a 29-cage cat room and space for non-domestic animals and livestock.
Tulare County Animal Services helps to reduce animal overpopulation by promoting and providing spay/neutering services and educating the public on appropriate pet care. We help to reduce the dangers and nuisances caused by irresponsible pet ownership and protect pets from abuse, neglect, and homelessness.
