Public Guardian
The Public Guardian assumes responsibility for the personal care and/or finances and estate of those found by the court to be incapable of taking care of themselves. When there are no friends or relatives who are able to act as caretaker, the Public Guardian can assist.
The Public Guardian’s office conducts investigations to determine the needs and how to best meet those needs. Arrangements to provide for the person’s care and protection may include:
- Safe living arrangements
- Adequate health care
- Food and clothing
- Personal care
- Housekeeping assistance
- Transportation
- Recreational activities
Living arrangements are focused on needs, safety, and comfort and the allowance of as much independence as possible. Being under the care of the Public Guardian also helps assure freedom from fraud or abuse.
If you believe you know someone who may benefit from or has a need for these types of services, please contact the office of the Public Guardian.
