May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and HHSA’s Mental Health Branch is seeking to raise awareness of the role mental health plays in all of our lives. Anyone can take steps to promote good mental health; treatment is available, and recovery is possible.
Observed in the United States since 1949, May is Mental Health Awareness Month. If you did not know California offers free, confidential mental health support to residents of all ages—no insurance or referral required.
On February 11, 2025, the Tulare County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 to appoint Dr. Asma Tariq to the position of County Health Officer, effective May 4, 2025. Dr. Tariq fills the position that has been vacant since Dr. Karen Haught retired in 2023.
