For cleaner air and water and a more attractive environment, the Solid Waste Management program ensures the proper storage and disposal of solid waste (i.e., the things we throw away every day), including all kinds of garbage, yard waste, old appliances, and used furniture.
Solid Waste Management efforts (including permitting and operating landfills, transfer stations, composting, and materials recovery facilities) contributes to fewer public nuisances and safety hazards. It minimizes the presence of flies, rodents, and other vermin that could spread disease.
The Medical Waste Management program regulates hospitals, clinics, and other health care facilities to ensure proper handling and storage of waste in order to prevent individuals’ exposure to potentially dangerous organisms.
