Reporting Child Abuse

Reporting Child Abuse

If you suspect child abuse or neglect, call the Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline at 1-800-331-1585; operators accept calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Anyone may report incidents of known or suspected child abuse or neglect. Operators listen to concerns and make note of details you provide about the child and family to help in an investigation.

If what you report indicates the need for an in-person investigation, our Emergency Response social workers will investigate the situation and determine the best course of action, often with the help of family members and community-based organizations.

If you are unsure about making a report, call the Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline and discuss your concerns with our trained staff. The identity of anyone making a report is always kept confidential. Because of your call, the child and the child’s family may receive services that will fulfill their needs and protect the child’s well-being.
